Sacré-Cœur Basilica – White Dome Over Paris
Perched on top of Montmartre hill, the Sacré-Cœur Basilica is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Paris. Its white domes can be seen from across the city, and the climb up to the church rewards you with sweeping views of the capital.
The best part is that entry to the basilica itself is completely free. Inside, you’ll find one of the largest mosaics in the world, “Christ in Glory,” which fills the apse with color and light. The soaring arches, quiet chapels, and golden glow of candles make it a peaceful contrast to the lively streets outside.
The basilica was completed in 1914 and has since become not only a religious site but also a cultural symbol. Many visitors come to admire the architecture and the atmosphere, while others simply enjoy the serenity of a moment inside.
If you’d like to go further, the dome and crypt can be visited for a small fee, but most people find the free interior to be a complete experience in itself. Outside, the steps of the basilica are one of the most popular gathering spots in Paris, with musicians often playing as the sun sets over the city.
A visit here is both inspiring and unforgettable – and you don’t need to spend a cent to enjoy it.
