Passage Jouffroy – A 19th-Century Glass-Covered Arcade

Passage Jouffroy is one of the most charming covered passages in Paris, a glass-roofed arcade dating back to 1847. Stepping inside feels like going back in time, with its iron-and-glass architecture, patterned floor tiles, and rows of little shops.

It’s part of a network of 19th-century passages that once offered Parisians shelter from the rain while shopping or strolling. Today, it remains a delightful place to wander, filled with bookstores, toy shops, antique stores, and cozy cafés.

One of its highlights is the historic Hôtel Chopin, a small hotel that has welcomed guests since the passage first opened. There’s also the Musée Grévin, a wax museum located right next door, which makes the area lively with visitors.

The arcade is not large, but the light streaming through the glass ceiling and the vintage shopfronts create a unique atmosphere. Photographers love capturing the long perspective of the passage, while others enjoy window shopping or simply soaking in the nostalgia.

Passage Jouffroy connects with other passages nearby, such as Passage Verdeau, so you can make a little walking tour of Paris’s hidden arcades.
