Musée Cognacq-Jay – 18th-Century Art in the Marais
The Musée Cognacq-Jay is a charming museum dedicated to 18th-century art. It was founded by the owners of the Samaritaine department store, Ernest Cognacq and Marie-Louise Jay, who donated their collection to the city.
Admission is free, and the collection includes paintings, sculptures, furniture, and decorative objects from the Age of Enlightenment. Visitors will see works by artists such as Boucher, Fragonard, and Canaletto, alongside delicate porcelain and fine furniture.
The museum is located in a beautiful townhouse in the Marais, which adds to its atmosphere. It’s not a huge museum, but it captures the elegance and refinement of the 18th century perfectly.
