Jardin du Luxembourg – The Quintessential Parisian Park

The Luxembourg Gardens are among the most beloved green spaces in Paris. Created in the early 17th century for Marie de’ Medici, they stretch over 25 hectares and offer a perfect mix of formal French landscaping, tree-lined promenades, and quiet lawns.

At the center is the large octagonal basin where children sail little wooden boats, a tradition that has charmed generations. Scattered throughout the park are statues of writers, artists, and queens of France, as well as the graceful Medici Fountain, one of the most romantic spots in Paris.

The gardens are also home to the French Senate, which meets inside the Luxembourg Palace, though visitors can freely explore the grounds. Parisians come here to jog, play tennis or chess, and simply relax with a book in the famous green chairs.

The atmosphere changes with the seasons: spring blossoms, summer picnics, autumn leaves, and crisp winter walks. Whether you want to stroll, sit, or people-watch, the Luxembourg Gardens are a timeless Parisian experience.
