Musée Cernuschi – Paris Museum of Asian Art
Musée Cernuschi is a museum dedicated to Asian art, located just beside Parc Monceau. It was founded in 1898 by Henri Cernuschi, a wealthy banker and passionate collector, who traveled across Asia and brought back thousands of pieces. The museum is housed in his former mansion, which makes a visit feel both cultural and personal.
The permanent collection is free and offers one of the largest selections of Asian art in France. You’ll find impressive bronze statues, ceramics, and paintings from China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. One of the highlights is a monumental 18th-century Buddha statue from Japan that greets visitors as soon as they enter.
The museum is not very large, which makes it easy to explore in about an hour. Its size and calm atmosphere make it a great stop if you want to enjoy art without the crowds of bigger Paris museums. The connection to Parc Monceau also adds to the experience – you can combine a museum visit with a peaceful walk in the park.
Musée Cernuschi is especially interesting for anyone curious about Asian culture and history, and it’s a perfect example of how Paris museums can surprise you with collections from far beyond France.
